TCC Student-Athletes Named to 2021-22 NJCAA All-Academic Team

Seventeen Tallahassee Community College student-athletes were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic Teams for the 2021-2022 academic school year. Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2020-21 academic year. Student-athletes must achieve a 3.60-3.79 GPA for the 2021/2022 school year to be named to the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team. Student-athletes with a 3.80-3.99 GPA are named to the Second Team, and student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA are named to the First Team.

Local Students Set to Graduate from Tallahassee Community College

Tallahassee Community College will recognize more than 3,000 candidates for graduation during the College's Virtual Commencement Celebration at 6 p.m. on April 30, 2021. TCC Model UN Team Completes Third Virtual Conference with Honors

Tallahassee Community College Model United Nations (TCC MUN) assembled on campus in socially distant fashion this past week for a virtual conference put on by the National Model United Nations. Eight TCC students virtually partnered with fourteen Valdosta State University (VSU) students to represent the United Kingdom in four days of committee sessions. The TCC/VSU students won an Honorable Delegation award for their work as a whole, two TCC/VSU partners were recognized as outstanding delegates in their respective committees, and one TCC/VSU partnership won an award for best position paper. In all, the TCC MUN team earned 10 awards over the course of this academic year. TCC MUN is led this year by two TCC students, President Jeanie Morrison, and Vice President Sean Rutten. They were joined at the conference by TCC students Camille Beauchamp, Joseph Davis, Alaina Eyler, Jamey Harvey, Brianie Sanchez, and Nima Torabi. While the pandemic may have limited TCC MUN to virtual events this year, these TCC students demonstrated that resilience and dedication makes for academic success worth honoring.

TCC Students Selected for the All-Florida Academic Team

Eight Tallahassee Community College students have been named to the All-Florida Academic Team for their outstanding scholarship, leadership and contributions to the community. The 2021 All-Florida Academic Team consists of 137 students from the 28-member Florida College System that includes Eastern Florida. The students were nominated by their colleges and selected based on high achievement in the classroom, leadership on campus and community service. TCC's 2021 All-Florida Academic Team includes: Timothy Collins Guilandia Aristilde Amber Collinsworth Letricia Hodge Romell Stone Terelle Thomas Zakaila Tillman Chelsea Wyatte The Florida College System honored students on April 23 during a Virtual 2021 All-Florida Academic Team Awards Ceremony. The Florida awards are part of the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. All-Florida Academic Team students are eligible for additional scholarship opportunities at Florida universities and are considered for scholarships sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, ranging in value from $1,000 - $5,000, which can be used to continue their education anywhere in the nation.

TCC Forensics Team attend Forensic Association State Championship

Last weekend, 13 members of the TCC Speech and Debate Team captured Overall Team Sweepstakes Award at the Florida Intercollegiate Forensic Association 2021 State Championship. In doing so, they bested all of the major university programs in the state including: the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, Florida State University, the University of South Florida, and the University of West Florida. TCC last won the title in 2017.

TCC students participate in 2021 Undergraduate Research Symposium

Tallahassee Community College recently held its 2021 Undergraduate Research Symposium. The event is a culmination of amazing collaborations and partnerships between students and faculty on research initiatives. Students participating in the undergraduate research had the opportunity to share and discuss their work in a variety of ways including oral presentations, poster sessions, visual arts and performance arts. "For the Virtual Symposium on Undergraduate Research, our TCC students really stepped up to the challenge," said Dr. Renee Gordon, STEM Program Director at the College. "They presented live on topics ranging from mental health during a pandemic, predictive algorithms, and environmental effects of smart vehicles. We are proud and look forward to their future research." The experience allowed students to build transferrable skills that help to build professional networks while contributing to knowledge that impacts our communities. Most importantly it was an opportunity to share research topics and hold discussions.

TCC students to compete in National Cyber League

In 2011, the National Cyber League (NCL) was created to develop a platform where students with varying skill sets in cyber security can join a national cyber competition. The goal is for students to practice the skills learned in the classroom. Since the creation, the NCL has been hosting two competitions each year. Students compete in an online platform. Students from all skills sets and backgrounds that include programming, web development, networking, and cyber security, to name a few, compete in the platform by solving various challenges. The NCL competition for 2021 kicks off in March and Tallahassee Community College has sponsored Cole Issacs and Joe Hyde students from our Cyber Security and Networking programs. They will be mentored by Carlos Torres. This is the third competition that TCC has sponsored for the NCL.
